Local radio station WBCO made big changes nearly a year ago and it made another one today.

The station, which has been around for over 50 years, switched from its classic format to Country Legends in February and added an FM station to its broadcast. The drawback, however, was that the signal did not cover the entire county and competed with a country station based in Columbus on the same frequency. Today, it’s extending its reach even more as it moves from 92.3FM to 107.5FM.

kim-goyerSimply put, North Central Ohio Media Group, which operates WBCO, purchased additional equipment to extend it coverage area.

“Basically 92.3 will be no more and we’ll be moving up the dial to 107.5,” explained station manager Kim Goyer. “Our listeners are very excited about Country Legends and the new format. However, one disappointment was the coverage area. So we want them to know we really listened to them, we really took into consideration what they wanted.”

An added benefit to moving the station and adding to the coverage area is the ability to broadcast additional football games. Tonight, listeners will be able to tune in to two different high school football playoff games: Gibsonburg versus Wynford on Q92.7 and Colonel Crawford versus Liberty Center on WBCO 107.5FM and at www.wqel.com.

“We’re going to have more sports, more local coverage,” Goyer added. “I think we’re going to be able to have a deeper impact on our community with the new coverage of Country Legends 107.5.”
