The Golden Age of Country Music spans the 1940s through the 1960s — a time when country music grew from a Southern tradition into a powerful national force. It was an era when earning a spot on the Grand Ole Opry meant you had truly arrived.
The Opry stage welcomed giants like Roy Acuff, Ernest Tubb, Hank Williams, Minnie Pearl, Red Foley, Kitty Wells, Patsy Cline, and Bill Monroe. Broadcast coast to coast on WSM radio every Saturday night, the Grand Ole Opry reached millions of homes and helped define what America knew as country music.
This was the era when country found its true identity — blending rural roots, honky-tonk heartache, and mainstream appeal — creating legends whose songs still echo across the airwaves today.
And now, WBCO is proud to reintroduce North Central Ohio to these icons of country music every Wednesday evening inside the 5 o’clock hour, beginning March 4th.
