Every year in the fall, students at Bucyrus High School gear up for the annual Homecoming festivities. And this year is no exception with a full slate of activities for students and the community.

Activities will kick off with a Homecoming Assembly for students in grades 9-12 Oct. 3. During the assembly, the ten Homecoming candidates and attendants from the ninth, tenth and eleventh grades will be introduced. Five of the candidates will be selected for the Homecoming Court by the senior class. The 2014 Bucyrus Homecoming Queen will be announced prior to kickoff of the varsity football game Oct. 10 against Buckeye Central.

“The students have opportunities to get involved in Homecoming week in so many ways,” Girls Boosters advisor Beth Constantine said. “We have students making signs for the pregame ceremony, designing the tickets for the dance and selling them during lunches, and lining up chaperones. It’s great to see students taking on all of these responsibilities and getting into the spirit of what Homecoming is all about!”

A Community Pep Rally will be held in the Bucyrus Secondary School Commons at 7:00 p.m. Oct. 8. High School class officers and their peers will have fun events for community members to enjoy. Everyone attending will move into the gym for the pep rally led by the cheerleaders and the band at approximately 7:40 p.m. The top five Homecoming Queen candidates, along with class attendants, will be introduced during the pep rally.

“Our student groups are preparing diligently to participate in the community pep rally, and everyone is excited for the dance Saturday,” Secondary School Principal Mark Burke said. “School spirit is at its highest during homecoming week and we hope our community will get involved in the celebration!”

The Homecoming festivities will conclude with the annual Bucyrus Homecoming Dance Oct. 11 in the Bucyrus High School gymnasium.
