BUCYRUS — After 30 years at the Bucyrus Public Library, Brenda Crider retired after a two-year stint as the library’s director. After job-shadowing Crider for a month, Stephanie Buchanan took over the position in September.

Buchanan’s love for libraries began many years ago.

“I took my kids to the library where we lived and liked everything that had to offer. I applied for a part-time job there, which got my foot in the door,” said Buchanan who resides in Greenwich with her family. “I think anyone who visits the library becomes a cheerleader for the library.”

Buchanan worked as a branch manager at the library in Bellevue for 21 years then four years as the director before coming to the Bucyrus Public Library for her new position.

“I like Bucyrus because it is a close-knit community with so much to offer. The library building is beautiful. I love it,” said Buchanan who earned her business degree at Tiffin University.

Buchanan said she has not added anything new programming at the library yet.

“I am still getting to know people and learning what they want and need from the library,” she said. “I am open to suggestions and welcome input from the community.”

The library currently offers 25 hot spots so people may have Wi-Fi at their homes along with an array of other services and programs.

From book clubs to meeting rooms and thousands of books and DVD’s to check out, the library is not only an educational institution but a gathering place for many.

The library, located at 200 E. Mansfield St., is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The library is currently closed on Sundays.
