Bucyrus Railcar Repair, LLC (BRR), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Cathcart Rail Holdings (CRH), has expanded its flagship Bucyrus, Ohio repair facility by acquiring the adjacent facility and assets of the former American & Ohio Locomotive Crane Company (AOLC).

Located south of BRR’s current property with direct connection through its main yard, this expansion adds an additional 25 acres comprised of 163,000 square feet under roof, 10 repair spots, and yard capacity for up to 75 cars. The purchased machinery and equipment includes: overhead cranes; mobile cranes; fork trucks; fully-equipped boom and crane trucks; a blast and paint booth; rail scale; and, fabrication machinery, including a wheel press and CNC burn table, capable of producing various railcar parts.

The entire Bucyrus complex now spans almost 60 acres with 330,000 square feet under roof, including CRH’s new two-story office building, 38 repair spots, and yard capacity for nearly 400 cars – making this one of the larger railcar facilities in the nation. This general freightcar facility’s full capabilities include: heavy modification and wreck repair; new railcar assembly; parts fabrication; non-hazardous cleaning; multi-level certifications; exterior and interior blasting, painting and lining; mobile repair; storage; and scrapping (forthcoming).

The facility is AAR certified: M-1003; M-970; and M-992; with M-214 and M-1001 underway. The Norfolk Southern provides direct service, with additional access to the CSX via indirect switching by the Chicago, Fort Wayne and Eastern.
