BUCYRUS — Despite random rain showers throughout the day, hundreds of people converged on the main drag of Bucyrus for the annual car show Saturday.
For the second year in a row, the event was sponsored by the Bucyrus Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 68. The FOP took over the car show in 2017 when the Crawford County Customs and Classics Car Club announced it would no longer be hosting the annual Graffiti Cruise.
The corporate sponsor for the second annual Cruisin’ with the Cops Custom and Classic Car Show was Ohio Mutual Insurance Group.
“I have participated in this car show about five times. The people here are very nice, and I love the murals,” Fred Lawson said.
Lawson brought his 1950 Chevy to the show, but normally brings his 1957 Chevy convertible.
“I decided to change it up a bit,” said Lawson, who traveled to the show from Mount Vernon.
Mike Whited and his wife, Lisa, were at Bucyrus City Hall selling hot dogs, chips and other goodies for the police department’s Explorers group.
“The car show brings a lot of people to our community,” Mike said. “I love that they cruise down the main street of town just like we used to do when we were young.”
Bucyrus Police Lt. Tom Walker of the FOP said that the event had a great turnout despite the weather.
“The Four C’s and the Eliminators and other great car clubs put this event on for years and we were able to take it over from them and it has turned out to be quite successful,” Walker said. “We took it over because we sponsor a bunch of different charities, like the soccer league and the Little League, and every ounce of money we make goes right back into the community.”
Benefits from the event will be going towards Bucyrus Little League, Bucyrus Area Youth Soccer and Operation Hope for Christmas.
