Part of any day at the ball field is the opportunity to enjoy a hot dog from the concession stand. Colonel Crawford softball fans now have a new place to get their ‘dogs thanks to the district’s Athletic Boosters.
At Colonel Crawford on Wednesday, the new concession stand at the softball field was dedicated, while those responsible for its construction were honored prior to the Lady Eagles versus Mohawk Lady Warriors game.
The new facility not only features a concession stand, but restrooms with running water as well as a storage space. Colonel Crawford Athletic Booster member Mark Teynor spoke about how the new concession building came about.
“I think it was a decision a long time ago to do the building. I think it was just in the order of other things needed done before this. But it is just the money thing, and once the Corvette Raffle started making better money this was one of our goals to have this building here,” Teynor said. “A lot of the guys that started in the booster club, we all had daughters that played softball, no track players, no football players, no nothing, we were all just softball parents.”
“Our first attempt at a concession stand building was the old wooden thing, so this was one of our goals,” Teynor continued.
Teynor noted that the building did cost more than they were expecting.
“We were in the planning stage in a year. We found out how much money we wanted to spend and we found out that wasn’t enough,” Teynor said. “Once we got the estimate back it was way over what our expectations were, but hey it’s what it is.”
Colonel Crawford Superintendent Todd Martin reflected on the new facility.
“It just enhances the property even more, and this area back here, we have had port-a-potties back here forever, and it is nice to have running water and restrooms,” Martin said. “We are really proud of everything that they do for the students and the community.”
The brick and mortar concession stand and facilities were funded through the Colonel Crawford Athletic Boosters, and was constructed by Studer-Obringer Construction Company out of New Washington.
