BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Firefighters need water to do their jobs and they understand that kids need water to beat the summer heat. Crawford County is in the middle of a lingering heat wave.
Aumiller Pool Park Manager, Jennifer Allonas, reached out for day sponsors so kids could swim free. Businesses including XT Innovations, Rick’s Sewer And Drain. Lohr’s Towing And Recovery and the Bucyrus Holiday Inn Express have all made this week possible.
The pool has reached capacity on some days thanks to the generosity of these businesses.
Bucyrus Township Volunteer Fire Department members read firefighter Greg White’s letter to the editor of Crawford County Now and responded immediately. White called in area businesses to help get free access to the pool on sweltering days.
Through a group text chat and a text roll call, every member of the department voted to sponsor a pool day.
The money to pay for a free pool day comes out of the department’s fundraising account and is at no cost to the taxpayers.

White is challenging all area volunteer fire departments to do the same.
White’s goal is to provide at least 30 Days of free swimming at the Aumiller Pool.
White was so inspired by Bucyrus City Councilman James Mee’s challenge to the council to each donate $72.00 and sponsor a pool day, that he decided to set up his own opportunity for any citizen who wants to help with his effort for the Aumiller pool.
White established “The Magnificent Seven” account at city hall. He already donated his $72 and needs six more sponsors to purchase a day.
White believes it’s time for the city to move forward and focus on all the good in our community; starting with supporting the Aumiller Pool.
The pool serves as a safe and fun place for citizens to gather.
The pool is now open daily and passes are available there.
