BUCYRUS — Ohio Auditor of State Dave Yost made a special visit to Crawford County on Wednesday to present an award to Crawford County Auditor Joan Wolfe.

Wolfe received the Auditor of State award with distinction.

The award is given to entities that file a comprehensive annual financial report, timely financial reports in accordance to generally accepted accounting principles as well as receive a clean audit. A clean audit means a financial audit did not contain findings for recover, material citation, material weakness, significant deficiencies, single audit findings or any questioned costs.

Before Yost presented the award, he spoke of the importance of the Auditor’s Office.

“When we come into your office, it can be tense because we are looking for errors,” Yost said. “But I tell my staff that we also need to look at what’s being done correctly and acknowledge that.”

Crawford County was one of only four state agencies that qualified for the award.

Yost went on to commend the entire staff for their team effort. He said he had hoped to see the county commissioners at the ceremony because their willingness to follow the order of the law is what makes a clean audit possible.

Wolfe was quick to acknowledge her staff in the process.

Also, in attendance at the ceremony were Crawford County Prosecutor Matt Crall and Judge Shane Leuthold.

“When anyone gets an award in this building I like to be on hand to congratulate them” Leuthold said.
