GALION—A Galion nursing home is being hit with a COVID-19 outbreak.

It was announced on Sunday that Mill Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation is experiencing an outbreak of COVID-19.

In a joint press release with the Galion Health Department, officials from Mill Creek said the outbreak includes positive results for both residents and staff. The nursing home staff is working in conjunction with the Galion City Health Department and the Ohio Department of Health to investigate and mitigate the presence of COVID-19 in the facility.

The press release states, “We have had great support from our Medical Director, Galion Community Hospital, and the National Guard Bridge Team, this has enabled us to create and execute a plan to treat our residents. The facility implemented all measures recommended by ODH and CDC to prevent the spread of COVID-19 prior to the order to do so. All staff is screened for illness prior to entering the facility. We have adequate supplies and testing capabilities to care for our residents.”

“We remained transparent with our families during this time and have received great support. The staff at Mill Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation is dedicated to the care of our residents. We ask for the support of our community as we continue the battle for those we serve.”

Trish Factor, Health Commissioner for the Galion City Health Department stated, “Mill Creek has been in constant communication with our office as they work through this challenging time. They have taken additional action steps to protect the residents as well as the staff. The Galion City Health Department is conducting interviews of positive staff in Galion and quarantining any close contacts they may have had in order to reduce the spread within the community.”
