GALION—On May 3, 2023, the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office wrapped up an investigation into the illegal possession of explicit images of juveniles. Deputies executed a search warrant at a residence located at 6766 Brandt Rd. in Galion, Ohio, and arrested 51-year-old Matthew Smith, who resided at the address and was the target of the investigation.

During the search, law enforcement officials seized multiple electronic devices from the residence. Criminal charges are pending against Mr. Smith for Possession of Child Pornography. He is currently incarcerated at the Crawford County Justice Center, and reports regarding the case will be forwarded to the Crawford County Prosecutor’s Office for consideration of additional charges.

This case is still under investigation by the detectives from the Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Kent and Detective Winkelman are urging citizens to report any suspicious activity to the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office at 419-562-7906.
