CRESTLINE, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The Crestline Exempted Village School District in Crawford County has been declared “unauditable” by the Auditor of State’s Office for the periods ended July 1, 2021, through June 30, 2022, and July 1, 2022, through June 30, 2023.

This declaration was made due to inadequate financial statements and records that hindered the completion of an audit.

District Treasurer Alina Nemec and Superintendent James Saxer were informed of this declaration on Friday, Feb. 23. The Auditor of State’s Office highlighted several issues, including the District’s failure to respond to information requests from the contracted financial services provider, Julian and Grube Inc. This lack of cooperation has prevented the completion of necessary financial reports and audits.

The Crestline Exempted Village School District has been given a 90-day deadline to revise its financial records and provide the necessary data to complete the audit. Failure to meet this deadline may result in legal action, including the potential involvement of the Attorney General.

For assistance in addressing these deficiencies, the District has been advised to contact the Auditor of State’s Local Government Services division or an independent accounting firm. It is emphasized that delays or failure to meet the deadline will not be considered as mitigating factors.

Crawford County Now reached out to Crestline Exempted Village School District Superintendent Jim Saxer, but he could not comment on the matter.
