Fatal crash on Plymouth Springmill Road in Richland County

RICHLAND COUNTY– The Mansfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a one-vehicle fatal crash. The fatal crash occurred on March 10, 2021, around 8:36 PM on Plymouth Springmill Road near London West Road. 

The Mansfield Police Department was attempting to stop a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado, which was being driven by Randy L. Heater Jr., age 37, of Mansfield, Ohio, who was fleeing police northbound on Plymouth Springmill Road. Mr. Heater Jr. failed to negotiate a curve, traveled off the right side of the road striking a guardrail. The vehicle overturned and Mr. Heater Jr., who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced deceased at the scene. 

The Mansfield Post was assisted by Mansfield Police Department, Shelby Police Department, Richland County Sheriff’s Office, Shelby Fire Department, Shiloh Fire Department, and Richland County Coroner’s Office. 

The crash remains under investigation.
