This Saturday, October 28th, Lowe-Volk Park, nestled at 2401 State Route 598, will be the backdrop for a unique opportunity to face your fears head-on. The Crawford Park District is hosting a special event that promises to unravel the mysteries of the eight-legged creatures we often fear – spiders.

Face to Face with Spiders: Overcoming Arachnophobia at Lowe-Volk Park

From 11 a.m. onwards, participants will delve into the mesmerizing world of spiders, gaining an up-close look at various species while discovering their astonishing super senses. But the thrill doesn’t stop there – you’ll also have the chance to do the seemingly impossible: hold these incredible creatures, including orbweavers and tarantulas.

Lowe-Volk Park, conveniently situated just 3 miles north of US Route 30, is the ideal setting for this adventure into the world of arachnids.

Viewing the Night Sky: Stargazing Extravaganza

For the celestial enthusiasts among us, another captivating event awaits on the very same evening of October 28th at Lowe-Volk Park. Starting at 7 pm, the Crawford Park District invites all stargazers to join the Crawford Park Astronomy Club as they share their knowledge and telescope skills for an enchanting night of stargazing.

As the night sky unfolds, you’ll have the chance to explore a variety of celestial targets for the fall season, including the mesmerizing M15 in Pegasus, the ethereal Ring Nebula (M57) in Lyra, and the grand Hercules Cluster (M13). Discover the captivating Summer Triangle and take a peek at our cosmic neighbor, the Andromeda Galaxy (M31). Additionally, admire the dazzling Albireo, a striking double star that glows with contrasting colors.

Prepare to be enthralled by the macabre world of nature’s “zombies” on Tuesday, October 31st, at Lowe-Volk Park, 2401 State Route 598. The Crawford Park District invites you to explore the intriguing organisms that create these gruesome fates in nature.

From crickets that meet a watery end to caterpillars with bodyguard ants to the eerie “fungified” kamikaze ants, you’ll be amazed at the daily occurrences of these nature-based horrors. The inspiration for the popular show “The Last of Us” comes to life in this eye-opening event.

Homeschool in Nature: Exploring Scents and Aromas

On Thursday, November 2nd, Lowe-Volk Park welcomes the Crawford Park District Homeschoolers for a unique adventure. This month, children aged 5 to 12 will be putting their noses to the test as they explore a range of scents – from animal musk to fresh mint leaves and everything in between.

To participate in this olfactory journey, parents can call the Park District at 419-683-9000 to register their children. Located just 3 miles north of US Route 30, Lowe-Volk Park is the ideal setting for this educational and fun experience.

Saw-whet Owls: A Nighttime Encounter with Ohio’s Smallest Owl

Prepare to encounter the elusive and nocturnal Saw-whet owls on Friday, November 3rd, at Lowe-Volk Park, 2401 State Route 598. Ohio’s smallest owl will be the star of the evening as bird bander Bob Placier returns with his mist nets to gather data on these diminutive raptors.

Starting at 6:30 pm, the night will kick off with a PowerPoint presentation that provides insights into these intriguing creatures. Following the presentation, attendees will have the chance to check the mist nets in the hopes of capturing a few of these nocturnal flyers.

In between net checks, a campfire will set the mood for a memorable fall evening, making this event perfect for the whole family. Don’t forget to dress appropriately for the weather and bring a flashlight.
