BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Lori Starner, along with her husband Tommy Starner, established “Remembering Our Heroes” a decade ago with a mission to support veterans in need within Crawford County. Working closely with the Bucyrus Veterans office, the organization has been a beacon of hope for many veterans seeking assistance.

Over the years, “Remembering Our Heroes” has undertaken various initiatives to aid veterans, including constructing wheelchair ramps, assisting with utility bills, providing gas cards, groceries, transportation to medical appointments, car repairs, and securing safe housing for veterans.

Their dedication and impact have positively affected numerous lives in Crawford County.

The organization’s primary fundraising event occurs during the annual Bratwurst Festival, where a beer garden is set up at the VFW 1078. Despite being a separate entity from the VFW, “Remembering Our Heroes” accepts donations year-round, with all funds raised during the festival channeled into a relief fund for veterans in need.

In return for donations, sponsors receive advertising opportunities, such as mentions during the event and placement on sponsor signage.
Donors are also placed on a t-shirt worn by the volunteers for the event. The shirts are also sold.

To further honor veterans, “Remembering Our Heroes” will host a special dinner on September 12, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. in the VFW Annex Building.

Additionally, donations of food items and volunteer support are welcomed for all the events on August 15-18 at VFW Post 1078 in Bucyrus.
