Threat to area schools deemed not credible

BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—A threat issued toward “American School Buildings” has been deemed not credible by law enforcement agencies including the FBI. An email was sent to schools across Ohio including those in Crawford County.

Crawford County Now has obtained an email sent to parents and staff in the Buckeye Central School Districts. The email reads:

Good Evening Buckeye Central Staff and Parents,

While it’s unusual to communicate with you on a Sunday evening, I want to keep you informed about a very important topic. We also want to prevent the spread of misinformation and panic since many schools across our county, region, and state have been affected. All Crawford, Richland, and Huron County districts have received a similar message this evening.

We received word earlier this afternoon that a threatening mass email from another country was sent to many schools and districts in Ohio indicating the threat of a bomb (in all of the schools) tomorrow. In checking, we received the same email. No schools are specifically mentioned including Buckeye Central. According to the Crawford County Sheriff’s office, the FBI has determined that this threat is a hoax. We have worked closely with the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office and local police department on this issue since we were included in the hoax.

To assure the complete safety of our students, staff, and school community members our school buildings will be thoroughly screened and searched by local and county law enforcement and district administrators this evening. This process has taken place across the County. We are fully confident that our buildings are safe and we are ready for a positive and constructive day at school tomorrow.

During the school day tomorrow our School Resource Officer, school administrators, local police, and the county sheriff’s deputies will remain on heightened alert also. The buildings will be locked and secure. Thank you.

Mark Robinson

Superintendent
